Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Dog

It won't take long for most owners to become somewhat accustomed to the routine whereby they come home from work an immediate take their beloved four legged friend outside to take care of their business.

As with almost all aspects of life, there are good things and bad things – or supposed to be bad things – when it comes to feeding your dog. Most owners are aware of the fact that raw meat diets can play a part in helping their dog become healthier and happier. While it can be true that the minerals and vitamins in the raw meat diet can help provide some benefits to help in the healing process, it can also be safe to say that it can take a mixed breed or mixed sex dog longer to digest than a more consumptions or beef based diet.

On the other hand, preservatives and artificial ingredients can be present in dry dog foods that can be even worse. There are natural preservatives such as Vitamin C or tocopherols (which are actually rendered from plants in oil) which are perfectly fine for us to eat, but they are not healthy or natural for dogs. These same preservatives can be found in most foods that are unhealthy for us humans, including chocolate, onions, and sugarless gum.

An even worse option for your dog can be to feed it a diet that is based around grains. Garlic and other natural foods that can in fact be found in many foods can actually cause a dog to develop a deficiency of the vitamins and minerals that they need to properly digest the food they are eating. This is why it's almost always bad idea to feed your dog a diet that is based around grains, even if they are labeled as such.

Despite the fact that many of the dog food products that are available out there are labeled as natural and nutritious, they often contain a large amount of fillers. This is a way for these dog food companies to cut down on their expenses and save money. One of the best ways to ensure that this doesn't happen is to get a dog food that isproductiveand nutritionally sound.

It is also a good idea to always choose dog food that is formulating and/or licensed in your area. Don't assume that the food you're buying is safe and nutritious just because it is labeled natural. Check the label to make sure that it doesn't contain any artificial ingredients. You want to find a product that is Vitamin E based to ensure that your dog gets the proper dose and amounts of other important vitamins and minerals.

Another way to assure that you're giving your dog the very best is to make sure that the company that makes the food is a member of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Like human members of the AAFCO, they have to insure the safety of the food and ensure that it meets all standards necessary to provide proper nutrition for Fido.

Try to always choose a dog food that is made by a reputable company. Don't let your dog down with an unhealthy product. Always read the labels and choose a healthy dog food product. If you want to provide the best nutrition for your dog, it would be best to consult with an expert (and) company to learn about the best choices and how to assure that your dog is receiving the nutrients it needs.
